Summary:
Performs general Security and Safety work in the protection of persons and property and the enforcement of applicable policies, procedures and regulations of Cayuga Medical Center and applicable Federal, State and Local laws to prevent losses due to accidents and incidents.
Job Responsibilities include:
1.
Protection of Life & Property Patrols the facilities both inside and outside.
Remains highly visible during patrols.
Exceeds:
Maintain a high standard in uniform appearance to include the wearing of body armor at all times.
Is observant and challenges suspicious persons at the facility.
Exceeds:
Consistently demonstrates situational awareness and conflict resolution skills.
Assists patients, visitors and staff as needed.
Exceeds:
Consistently offers assistance to our customers unsolicited.
Locks and unlocks areas as prescribed or as requested.
Is observant of all motor vehicle laws while operating a motor vehicle.
Exceeds:
Maintains a clean driving record ie; no tickets, complaints or citations.
Maintains continuous radio contact with the operator.
Exceeds:
Maintains a charged, functional 800mgz radio on the correct channel on your person at all times.
Responds in a timely manner to all calls.
Exceeds:
Demonstrates good judgement during high call volumes by prioritizing.
Submits a concise, clear, accurate and complete incident report in a timely manner.
Completes daily security log.
Maintains work area in a clean and safe manner on a daily basis.
Exceeds:
Consistently maintains a clean and serviceable work space, ie; empty trash, clean desk area for the next shift.
Escorts individual in a timely manner as needed to ensure their safety.
Is observant for unauthorized activities.
Uses proper lifting techniques during work tasks to prevent lifting injuries Performs Fire and Safety Checks:
Inspects fire extinguishers and other safety equipment.
Exceeds:
Documents in shift log random fire safety checks.
Inspects various directional and warning signs about the buildings, and reports any need for replacement.
Inspects exit signs and reports any bulb replacement needed.
Keeps well informed and participates in all fire, safety and disaster drills.
Investigates incident of injuries involving visitors and ensures a report is prepared.
Takes proper action to correct safety and security shortcomings noted.
Exceeds:
Submits a proper, accurate and concise work order, utilizing the wet floor signage system and appropriately sign Out of Order when appropriate.
Check the outer portion of the buildings for safety hazards.
Inspects all elevators and interior fire escape stairwells to ensure that there are no obstructions and are well lighted.
Reports any discrepancies.

Enforces all Federal, State and Local Laws, as well as all hospital Policies and Procedures:
Conduct preliminary investigations of complaints and incidents.
Exceeds:
Documents the incident and all relevant findings in a Security Incident during your current shift.
Answers all disturbances or criminal offense calls as requested.
Enforce parking rules.
Exceeds:
Ensures staff are not parking in patient parking by identifying violators and reporting them to the Security Director.
Uses diplomacy to insure all persons are not offended or alienated.
Monitors compliance with safety and security procedures.

Hospital Equipment Maintenance:
Basic mechanical ability to make minor repairs.
Analyze malfunctions and identify staff that can make repairs.
Attempts to repair before calling for assistance when appropriate.
Investigations of Incidents Investigates all incidents involving lost property, missing property, stolen property of all kinds, vandalism, all disturbances, missing patients, prank or obscene phone call, suspicious person, fire alarm, power failure, property damage and automobile accidents.
Prepares incident report on completion of investigation.
Notifies the proper individual and/or agency when appropriate.

Miscellaneous Activities:
Snow and ice removal.
Inspection of hospital lighting.
Inspection of doors and stair wells.
Security of entrance doors.
Interdepartmental support.
Education and Development:
Completes all mandatory education requirements.
Attends departments, on site and off site in-service as required.

Requirements:
Education - High School Diploma / GED Experience - Able to drive vehicle in all weather conditions.
Minimum of one year experience involving Security.
Ability to produce an accurate and well written report.
Ability to work alone or as part of a team.
Good people skills.
Licensure - A clean valid NYS Driver's license.
Need to possess and/or ability to obtain a New York State Security Guard License and pass an FBI background check, no criminal convictions.
Physical Requirements - This positon requires the ability to assist with lifting patients.
Able to stand, sit and walk for long periods of time.
Ability to walk up and down stairs.
Good vision and hearing.
Rotate and work irregular shifts.
Able to work out of doors in all types of weather.
